Aksaray Turcaí

Aksaray is situated at the western extremity of the Cappadocia region, separated from the town of Nidge by the extinct Hassan volcano. It is the capital of the province of the same name, one of the four into which the tourist region of Cappadocia is divided. The significance of this city lies in its lengthy history as an urban centre. Known in antiquity as Archelais Garsaura, this region of Anatolia was one of the first to be populated during the Neolithic period, as demonstrated by archaeological sites dating back to 5000 BC.
