About the destination

Famed as the home base of Mercedes-Benz, Stuttgart is often perceived as a drab industrial city, but it could very well be the most verdant city in Europe. Over half of its surrounding area is blanketed by orchards, meadows, forests, and over 500 vineyards that yield excellent wines. The city is currently undergoing a transformation, gradually shifting its car-centric urban design to accommodate more pedestrian spaces. After the Second World War, the city's architectural gems were restored. Today, it draws nearly half a million tourists annually with its impressive museums and an atmosphere of laid-back affluence. The city is nestled in a valley to the west of the Neckar River. The Schlossgarten, a vast stretch of parks and ponds teeming with swans, street performers, and contemporary sculptures, extends southwest from the Neckar River to the city center. In the heart of the city center lies the Schlossplatz, one of Stuttgart's most picturesque squares. On the southern edge of the Schlossplatz stands the Neues Schloss, a baroque palace that now serves as government offices. Adjacent to the palace is the Old Castle, which houses the Württemberg State Museum, the primary historical museum of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The Mercedes-Benz Museum, with its unique collection of vintage and state-of-the-art cars, is one of the city's most appealing and frequented sites. The museum building itself is also architecturally intriguing. Despite its modernity, Stuttgart exudes a certain charm and flair, offering visitors a variety of historical and cultural attractions.
