First known as Nyssa, and later as Muskara in the 18th century, Nevsehir, or the 'new city', has been recognized for its spiritual essence and appreciation for the arts during the 'Time of the Tulips'. Until the 18th century, Nevsehir was a modest town in Anatolia, whose fate was transformed by Ibrahim Pacha, a native of the town who rose to the position of Grand Vizier. Even after the death of Damat Ibrahim Pacha in 1730, the city maintained its significance. Following the Ottoman era and the establishment of the Republic, it became the capital of the province named after it. This charming town is distinguished by the fortress that sits atop a hill, overseeing the city. Constructed during the Seljuk period, it is the oldest structure in Nevsehir. The külliye is a complex that includes a fortress, a mosque, a library, a theological school, a hamam, an imaret (a public hostel and soup kitchen), and an elementary school.
