Macau China

Macau, officially known as the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China. Macau is a fascinating place to explore on foot, with churches, temples, fortresses, and other historic buildings that show a unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese influences. In the old part of the city, hundreds of narrow alleyways form a maze where local residents live, work, and run their businesses. A notable sight in Macau is the statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, located by the sea near the Sands Casino and MGM Grand. Visitors can also enjoy the Macau Tower for its spectacular views and adventure sports, or head to Fisherman’s Wharf for theme-park attractions and shopping. Much of the Macau Peninsula has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with 25 buildings and locations recognized for their cultural and historical importance. Taipa Village and Coloane Village, once home to fishing communities, are also worth visiting for their colonial-era shops and houses along narrow lanes.
