Blagaj Bosnia and Herzegovina

Blagaj is a village-town in the south‑eastern part of the Mostar basin, in the Herzegovina‑Neretva Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It lies on the edge of the Bišće plain and is one of the country’s most valuable combined urban‑rural settlements, notable for an urban layout that sets it apart from similar places. The name Blagaj is thought to come from its mild climate, as blaga in Serbo‑Croatian means “mild”. Blagaj is located at the source of the Buna River and is home to a historic tekke (also known as a tekija or Dervish monastery). The Blagaj Tekija, built around 1520 in a blend of Ottoman and Mediterranean architectural styles, is designated as a national monument. It was constructed as a monastery for Dervish orders.
